Artissima Ovale: Alin Bozbicìu
He's young, he's talented and he is a figurative painter who undertakes being the penultimate Mohican. He is also from Cluj, this uncertain city in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of a francophone country, Romania. The city has provided in recent years a contingent of artists who are now leading an international career and who have earned a well deserved reputation. Alain Bozbiciu masterfully handles all the painting tools, he addresses topics carefully — intimate picture stories where he often places pets in the foreground, portraits of friends and relatives, self-portraits where we feel a state of emergency and apprehension. But usually a certain type of chromatic restlessness and energetic brushstrokes reveal a worldview consistent with his visionary generation albeit not even thirty. Painting manages time differently, it invites a moment to stand still thus creating a diversion from the usual ‘truth’ that circulates through smartphones or the images that digital devices disseminate without ever conveying anything.
